Happy Monday loves! We had a relaxing weekend celebrating our two year anniversary and now it’s back to the grind! Today, I am sharing probably my favorite sustainable swap, clothing! Did you know that the clothing industry is in the top five most polluting industries in the world? From air, water, and soil, the clothing industry is incredibly polluting. You can read a little more about why I choose sustainability here, this is full of more facts and article links! I am sharing my top 3 ways that you can shop sustainably and turn your closet from fast fashion to slow home grown fashion!
Sustainable fashion is not just a trend, but the future.

Swap for American Made and Ethically Sourced Brands
My top two brands that I love shopping that are sustainable sourced are Vetta Capsule and Wear Pact Clothing. Vetta is a stunning brand that I could brag and brag about all day long! I first fell in love with their edgy capsule from their start up campaign way back in the day. Now, I own 4 capsules and can’t believe that these 4 capsules create over 120 outfits! (And that’s not counting the many ways you can mix and match each capsule!) Wear Pact has become my new go-to for basics. From t-shirt two packs, socks, and so much more. My favorite thing though has to be how Wear Pact tells you how much water you save with each purchase! Definitely feeds that instant gratification we all feel at times.
When you make the switch to purchasing sustainable clothing, you make the switch to purchasing quality goods that will last. You also are purchasing clothing that will make a difference in the world!

Buy Second Hand
Buying second hand can mean a few things! You can use apps like Poshmark, threadup, thrift stores, and any stores like Uptown Cheapskate and Plato’s Closet. Most of these places offer a reselling service, meaning that when you are done wearing fashions. You can even make a little cash off of the gently used items in your wardrobe! Some of my favorite pieces have been ones I have thrifted or found using these second hand stores. Buying second hand and giving clothes a second life, you are helping clothes the gap in the fashion industry. Why is this important? Because by closing the gap, we are not only helping Mother Earth, we are helping huminize the clothing manufacturing business! Here area few great links regarding why you should shop sustainably:

If you have been a long time reader of all things Team D, you know about our series called The Thrifting Diaries, a series all about The Who what where of sustainable shopping here in DFW! (You can check out the full series on YouTube) This is another great resource for those looking to build a better more sustainable wardrobe, but have never felt comfortable on how to even start thrifting.

Swap Parties
This is something I CAN NOT WAIT to start hosting here when quarantine ends! Clothing swaps are essentially exactly how they sound, everyone comes together and swaps clothing for a chance to freshen up their wardrobe and get the “new clothes” rush, without breaking the bank. Swaps can also give the opportunity to be more size inclusive and tailored to who will be attending. You can gather friends and family together to swap a plethora of things, in really any size you need! While this may seem like a new concept to some, it’s actually more common than you think!
A way to make every clothing swap successful is to confirm attendees, and have a set of ground rules to help guide the swap in a positive direction. From what type of clothes to bring, to having a minimum, it just makes everyone leave with something and feel like it’s a fruitful swap for everyone! Doing it #DentonStyle
Here in Denton, we have a seasonal swap called The ReVamp. A swap where hundreds of people attend and swap from sun up to sundown a variety of men and women styles in a variety of sizes. It’s probably one of the coolest things you’ve ever seen if you have gone!

Sustainable Swaps aren’t just for your closet…
There are so many other easy and affordable ways to make the sustainable swap in your own home! That’s why every Monday we will be sharing our favorite sustainable swaps so you can start making the change and live in a cleaner and greener home! Loved this post?
