Happy Friday everyone! Back at it again with the weekend and Feature Friday! Today we are bringing you another installment of where we feature hot and trending businesses right here in Denton! On today’s Feature Friday we have a smaller and may live in a tree! Gnome Cones was founded in 2017 out of a deep desire for an other-worldly snow cone experience. Together, the gnomies created a whole new kind of snow cone, now known as the Gnome Cone! With natural flavors and fabulous gnome themed cups, this tasty treat is made with love by the coolest (and smallest) local Dentonites! Check out our full interview here!
The treasure we guard be not silver nor gold; Not diamonds nor pearls, forming riches untold; The fortune we keep is no relic of old, But a precious concoction of mouth-watering coldgnome cones
TD: What made you want to open an establishment in Denton?
GC: We opened our first stand in Argyle because our investor had some open real estate that he allowed us to set up shop on, however Alex and I both live in Denton – so when we were ready for location #2, that was a natural next step! We love Denton’s unique, home-grown culture and are happy for Gnome Cones to now be a part of it!
TD: How long have you been serving the Denton community?
GC: We started working on the Denton store that Fall and finally got it opened in May of 2019!
TD: How has having a location the Denton Square enhanced or differed business?
GC: It has definitely enhanced our business! We were able to flesh out the idea of Gnome Cones even more with an interior dining space, and the Square has a considerable amount of foot traffic which is great for business! We also were able to build a big enough kitchen into the back of the Denton store so we could streamline our ice & syrup production for both locations.
TD: How did you come up with the name Gnome Cones?
GC: Gnome Cones started as a running joke & obsession with gnomes when Alex was in film school in LA. His roommate was into gnomes and they ended up starting a little secret gnome group called Agnomenous where they’d sneak around at night and post pictures of gnomes around campus for people to find the next day. It was mostly just a dumb way to pass the time, but slowly those jokes evolved into the idea / name of Gnome Cones!
TD: For a guest who has never been in, what can a new comer expect when they walk into Gnome Cones?
GC: Newcomers can expect an ABSURD amount of gnomes – and hopefully a friendly face to greet them & serve them the best all-natural snow cone or popsicle they’ve ever had!
TD: What’s your favorite cone flavor?
GC: Hmm… that’s a tough one. On a hot day like today, it’s probably a mix of Goblinberry & Lemon Lime – but the Sweaty Yeti gnomesicle is probably my all-time favorite thing we sell!
TD: What’s your favorite part about running Gnomes?
GC: It’s super cool to see a silly idea you have come to life and be something that brings people & their families so much joy, but that’s probably a runner-up to the relationships we’ve developed with employees & customers alike over the years! (The free popsicles & snow cones doesn’t hurt, too…)
TD: Where can people connect with you?
