Happy Tuesday guys! We are back with another installment of sustainable swaps, and today we are swapping bedroom essentials! That’s right, we are sharing how easy and affordable it can be to source sheets, pillow, and even your mattress for a new way of sustainable living! Let’s jump right into it!

Bamboo Sheets
Did you know that bamboo is one of the few plants that doesn’t need pesticides and chemicals to grow? AND it can survive without water! How crazy is that?! By sourcing 100% organic bamboo fiber sheets, not only are you helping reduce the waste water output, but you are also preventing chemicals, pesticides, and other nasties from getting into your skin at night from the fibers. If you’re worried about the feel, I swapped sheets without telling my hubby from our 1800 thread count poly cotton mix sheets to bamboo sheets, and he didn’t notice a difference! Bamboo plants also have anti-microbial benefits, meaning your sheets won’t start to stink or turn weird colors between washes! You’ll be as snug as a bug in a rug with your new bamboo sheets! There are just too many amazing facts about bamboo sheets to share in one post. To find out more benefits of the switching to bamboo sheets, check out this post from Cozy Earth! They go into full detail about all things bamboo and bamboo sheets! Check out Team D’s bamboo sheet picks below!
Bedding and Mattresses
Did you know that avocados aren’t just for toast? They’re used to make mattresses and pillows too! Now either your jaw just hit the floor like mine did, or you already knew about the Los Angeles brand Avocado Green Mattress! This mattress company includes no polyurethane foams, no off-gassing adhesives to bind the layers or toxic flame retardants in all of their products. If you’re interested in finding out what those do to your body, type them in on EWG’s website! It’s shocking.
But back to the mattress! Making the switch to a certified organic mattress and pillow set isn’t just a step in the right direction for the environment, but also your health! The air in our homes can be 5x more toxic than the air outside, and that could be from a number of things. By making the switch to more sustainable products, you’re removing the toxins and adding naturally produced items back into your home. You can check out the full Avocado Green Mattress story here, and check out their full line of mattresses, pillows, bedding, and more!
Furniture
It is no secret that IKEA has the cheapest, and probably largest selection, of bedroom furniture on the planet. Next to amazon, you can walk in and get practically any home good your heart desires. But at what cost?
Furniture can be a tricky thing to swap in your home, but the most rewarding! When you’re shopping for furniture consider thrifting what you can! Heading to your local goodwill or city thrift store to see their selection of vintage and donated. Most of it just needs a new seal and it’s set for many more years of love! You can also check out ethically sourced furniture from places like West Elm, which has an entire section of sustainably sourced and produced bedroom furniture! Also Avocado Green Mattress has a whole line of bedroom furniture as well! Check out Team D’s picks for bedroom furniture below!
