It’s the end of a decade and I can hardly believe we are about to start ANOTHER year! For me, this year has been a journey of growth, loss, experimenting, love, and really trying to find myself through The D. Diaries. From taking a leap into a new niche blogging style, #SmallBusinessLove, to ending the year on a podcast! 2019, you’ve been full of lessons.
Today’s blog post is naturally, the top moments in 2019. It’s been a year full of so many heart pounding moments that I just want to recap. Moments where I learned valuable lessons that I will forever cherish in my career as a blogger. You guys have truly helped shape this year though. From attending my events, sharing the posts, and so much more. YOU have made 2019 AMAZING for TDD! Without your support, NONE of this would have happened! So firstly, THANK YOU for following TDD journey! These top moments are all because of you! So let’s jump into this recap!
First Flower Arrangement Class
This year I started hosting a new series of hands on events, popularly known as Flower Arrangement classes! This makes my top moments because of the amazing response I had from the community. When I first started event planning, I wanted to do what other bloggers were doing and host blogging events, after my first event was a flop, I quickly learned that this type of event wasn’t for me. Thus, my community events were born! In July, I hosted the first flower arrangement class, which not only sold out, it oversold, and then we had walk in’s! It was truly such a God thing that we had enough floral’s, food, chairs, and everything needed to make this first event go off without a hitch!
“Eat Like A Dentonite” Series
Food is, and will always be, an easy way to my heart. I love going around and tasting all the delicious things chefs in Denton cook up! This top moment was a blogging land mark for me partially because it was my first big Denton series, Eat Like A Dentontie. From chowing down on burgers at LSA, to diving deep into a deep dish from Earls 377. This top moment allowed me to meet the best of the best chefs in Denton County! Looking for some food-inspo? You’ll definitely want to read the full five part series here!
Interviewed My Mentor
This top moment has my heart. Besides hosting flower arrangement classes, I had a chance to host a workshop on how to grow and develop your Instagram skills with my friend and blogger mentor Breshell! Breshell has such a heart for helping others, as well as an entrepreneurial spirit that helps me strive to reach my highest potential as a blogger. Her guidance over the years has helped me grow to be where I am today! So naturally, I had to interview her for my event! We discussed her e-book, how she became a blogger, what keeps her motivated in the ever changing world of Instagram, and more! This event was very different than most of my 2019 events, partially because it was a giant work session with a top DFW blogger babe. But it was also different because I got to just hang out with some AMAZING local business owners, bloggers, and other entrepreneurs!
Last Event, Christmas Dinner
This event was supposed to be VERY different. This top moment made the list for a few reasons. My original idea was to host an event at a restaurant with a private upstairs venue, with a silent auction where the proceeds go to charity, with stocking decorating contest, and a special showing of an upcoming documentary. PHEW! I am tired just typing that sentence out… What ended up happening was a Christmas Dinner at 940’s K&C, with guest speaker from Bochy’s Place, and a Christmas Cookie decorating thanks to Frosted Doilies Confectionery! The most unexpected thing happened though, we sold out LITERALLY 30 minutes before start! I was in shock! People held out to the literal last second to buy tickets, but I wasn’t even mad! At the event, after the Bochy’s Place speaker said a few words, something amazing happened. People who attended the dinner started swapping information and donating services to the girls at Bochy’s Place. From hair appointments, facials, and chiropractic services, everyone wanted to help. To me, this meant success, which is why this last event makes my top moments of 2019.
Diva Girl Ellie x The D. Diaries
This top moment all happened within 10 hours. Quite literally, I received a text from a business I worked with asking if I was available that evening. Sure enough I was, and thus began one of the most exciting evenings in 2019! The Denton Vibe is an online radio show and podcast that features Denton’s top musicians, entrepreneurs, and so much more! Together with host Diva Girl Ellie I had a chance to share my Denton story as well as some of my favorite blogging tips for anyone looking to start a blog out there! Truly, I was on CLOUD 9 the whole time! Even though I was battling a bit of a cold, I pulled through and me and Diva Girl Ellie had a blast! Have you had a chance to read the blog post yet? Check out my full recap of the day here, and you’ll get a glimpse as to why this made my top moments list!
Denton’s #1 Influencer Status
When 2019 started I set a goal for myself, to reach #1 in Denton. This top moment of 2019 was one that came with a large amount of just spending time with my community and asking them what they needed. For me, this title means that I know the who, what, where in Denton. It also means that when it comes to my community, I know just what they need to get the word out about anything. This is something I have worked for, and am so proud to have earned this status. There is still a long way to go though when it comes to getting the word out about the community, but 2020 is going to be FULL of amazing things from this influencer and beyond!
Became a Voice for Small Business In Denton
This top moment of 2019 coincides with all of the above points. When I decided to start partnering with small businesses, MANY people said “you won’t make money” “you need another plan” “what’s the point if there’s no money in it?”
Let me tell you something I have learned from working a year with small businesses. Their passion for what they do and the business they have created rubs off. Meaning that the same fire that fuels them to create and cultivate products, ideas, and growth I think has rubbed off onto me to continue to grow and catapult my business to the next level. Without these businesses and [partnerships, I 100% believe I would still be where I started. What’s different about working with a small business is they have a story, they have a drive, and they have a backbone for success that you just often don’t find in corporate america. So in 2020, you can bet that I will keep working with small businesses, and keep pushing the boundaries. Who wants to be a normal blogger anyway?
