Hello Loves and happy labor day! I have an exciting guest to introduce to you all on the blog today. MY HUSBAND! Thats right ladies and gents, a blog post from my husband talking about his experience with Postural Massage Therapy at Essential Healing Wellness Center. You guys loved my take on the therapy session, I thought I would bring on my husband so you guys could get a gentleman’s perspective on massages, self care, and a hesitations about bettering your overall health!
Men may avoid self-care simply because of these connotations. They will avoid talking about self-care because the whole concept itself is seen as ‘girly’. But self-care is so much more than self-indulgence.Thrivetalk, 2018
What was your first thought going into the massage?
I was ready! I love massages and anything that makes me not feel like a stretched rubber band is amazing!
What were your hesitations with a Postural Massage?
I knew it was going to be different than a regular swedish massage thats primary intent is to relax, so I was afraid I wouldn’t feel a sense of relief or relaxation throughout the massage. It seemed more like physical therapy at the time over a massage.
How did the massage help past injuries?
Jenna definitely help with my posture and well as my arms. In the past, I used to dance per my moms enforcement, and this lead to my feet bowing out like a ballerina when I stood up straight. For my arms, I inherited that throughout highschool from playing football and weightlifting. I developed bicep tendonitis that hasn’t ever fully healed properly. Throughout the massage, she helped corrected these things through repeated motions that adjusted my muscles back into the intended areas in which I could see and feel a notable difference!
What was the process of the massage like?
My appointment was not targeted at any specific ongoing issues, so it was a general full body experience. It started with my feet and correcting the bowing issue of my feet when I stand and work my way up aligning my leg muscles and hips so that my legs would not feel the need to bow out as constantly. From there, the next main things we worked on was my arms and neck due to the stiffness of both of them from prior sports injuries and general stress. Jenna focused on very targeted muscle movements as well massaging certain points of pain or postural points to correct those “out of wack” areas! Jenna even gave me certain stretches and exercises to do at home so that my body can become more accustomed to the positions I was being adjusted too.
What were your overall thoughts of the massage?
It was like a hybrid of a massage and physical therapy, not only did I become more and more relaxed through the process, but I also felt a noticeable difference in my posture and how my body reacted after the massage was over. After the massage, my hesitations of relaxation were completely gone because I knew I had my pressure points targeted and I could feel and visibly see a difference in how I walked and stood. In the words of Kramer of Seinfeld: “Here’s to feelin’ good all the time.”
Would you recommend other men get a Postural Massage?
Absolutely, self care is so important. It’s 2019 and in the past, I think men got a bad rap from others for caring about these things, but this regular maintenance helps us be the best versions of ourselves in the long run just like skin care, exercise, and mental healing does.
Final thoughts, from the VERY happy couple!
I already cannot wait to go back for my next postural massage! Trust me, both my husband and I loved how we felt afterwards. For guys, self care is JUST as important. Not only for their bodies, but for their mental health. After our massage, I could tell a difference in my husband for sure! He felt better on the inside, and it made a difference for the outside! If your man doesn’t have a self care routine, encourage him to start small. My husband and I started by doing face masks together, and have slowly started adding on things like pedicures and massages together!
