Hello again loves!
This weekend, Sophie and I attended the Edge of Texas Weekend event! We had a BLAST! We met so many people, filled with just as many ideas as us. That is one thing I love about the DFW area. So many bright and bold minds filling the industry. Thanks to companies like Texas Monthly and Edge of Texas, we are all able to come together for super fun networking events like these and collaborate!
And a HUGE shoutout to Breshell, for choosing me and Sophie to win the Edge of Texas giveaway! Where we wont the VIP tickets for the weekend to attend all of these awesome events! Without her support, we wouldn’t be where we are today! so THANK YOU BRESHELL!!
So what is the Edge of Texas? Well, it was a weekend where Texas’s best of music, cuisine, art, fashion, speakers, entertainers all converged on the great city of Dallas, TX and showcased what they all have to offer. My favorites of the weekend were Mary Louise Confections, Alex Astranti, Tania Joya, Cruz Ortiz, Rancho Pillow, and Shinyribs. WHEW! That may seem like alot of favorites, but that doesn’t BEGIN to scratch the surface of the talent there this weekend. Even Mark Cuban was there!
So, let me break this weekend down for you guys!
Friday Night – Party on the Edge
Texas came to the table tonight with a Latina flavored party filled with streamers, Cruz Ortiz art showing, food, tequila, and the Rancho Pillow lounge! This event was meant to showcase the leading edge of cuisine, art, and fashion of the great state of Texas. And man, did the host Texas Monthly deliver some fantastic talent to Dallas.
The entrance was decked out in colourful streamers to put us in a festive and party mood. Of course, I had to take a picture by them, with my 20 lbs of turquoise! Throughout the night we tried the chefs of the Bocuse d’Or winner Mathew Peters, Chris Shepherd of Underbelly, Mary Louise Confections, and more! We were in food HEAVEN!
But, now onto my favorite room of the night, the Rancho Pillow lounge. It was the perfect place to rest our tired dancing feet with a rustic gypsy atmosphere. They even had a fun photo booth with props! (Side note: I WILL find a headpiece like that) So many beautiful rugs and furniture, covered in orange and red carnation strings, every gypsy’s dream.
Saturday Panel – Storytelling on the Edge
Saturday was jammed backed with entertainment, art, politics, craft beer tasting, and the Highlight of Mark Cuban speaking! I made it just in time for Mark Cuban, Tonia Joya, and Jack Ingram. Located in the heart of Dallas at the Joule hotel and The Eye, the event had a quirky welcoming vibe, even though the sky looked like it was going to open up at any moment!
If you have not heard Tonia Joya story, I highly encourage you to read the Texas Monthly article here talking about how she escaped Syria and her ISIS leader husband. Her story is truly moving.
Also the Talents of Jack ingram and his crew of up and coming songwriters from all over the US. His panel was over the importance of practice and what it takes to create a great song. He lives by the 10,000+ hour rule for practice and it is how he mentors his singer songwriters as they progress.
And then Mark Cuban, who (we can assume for sure after the panel) is debating on running for president 2020, spoke on technology, family, and a whole lot of Texas politics. The room jammed packed with young and old dying to hear what he had to say.
Saturday Night – Texas on the Edge
A reimagined frontier premier event, filled with teepees, open flame cooking, covered wagons, and a modern campfire, we all stayed toasty warm the whole night through. My favorite thing about this event was the sheer amount of networking Sophie and I did! We met so many bright and adventurous minds ready to take the future of Texas to the edge. We chatted with Cruz Ortiz about his art, we chatted with the modern campfire crew about adding lights to garments, we met some other bloggers as well from Austin, and even hung out with some friends we made at panel! There may even be a BIG collaboration coming from my personal design studio too! 😉
The overall feel of this event was great to wind down the weekend with, perfect ending to a successful weekend of networking and fun.
AGAIN! Huge shoutout to Breshell, we won her Edge of Texas giveaway, and thank you so much for giving us this opportunity to network and expand our business. Thank you to all of the staff and chefs, artists, musicians, entertainers, and bartenders for hosting u this weekend! See you next year!
