In July, I was invited to attend the FGI Dallas The Future of Beauty event at Ese Azenabor Fashion Studio Dallas! During this event we discussed with a panel of professionals the beauty trends for Fall 2017. I just wanted to come on here and share with you all everything I learned that night! (which was ALOT)!!! So strap in ladies and gents and get ready to get learnt.
Terri owns a makeup school in Dallas, TX where she teaches, creates, and researches makeup trends and techniques for the industry. Her creation, the flesh tone color wheel, has already helped out aspiring and professional makeup artists alike all over. Click here to see it. One thing she repeated again and again is that the future of beauty is not the instagram image! (SHOCKING I know?!) The future of beauty is actually driven by the fresh faced natural look. In fashion shows, they are using the natural texture of the face to create the looks. The natural look is starting to translate into the normal society in ways of more skin products being advertised, created, and used on a daily basis.
Joanna is a model and makeup entrepreneur in the DFW area. She used her modeling experience to build her beauty brand. Her take on the future of beauty is natural and playful skin with youthful appearances. This trend is centered around the strong female empowerment trends going on around the world right now. Women are defining their own beauty standards by simplifying the makeup world. Social media plays into this too, more women are slowly accepting of the fresh natural face or natural looks on social media as opposed to daring “drag” makeup, But that doesn’t mean we don’t love that style! Social media is accepting the natural women now, thanks to the empowerment movement. Joanna also states that heavy contouring is out, and who can blame that?! It takes too long and makes sense with the following the natural women trends!
Susan owns her own makeup and skincare line for all ages. Her target market may be the older women, who need some skin rejuvenation, it is highly beneficial for late teens and early 20s to protect from skin damage. Susan spoke on makeup technology for the future, which included 3D printed powders and gels for application, a beauty mask from Japan that IS your makeup face (you just apply its paper thin sheet to your face), and a new makeup compound that she is working on that will protect your face from UV rays better than anything on the market. With technology also comes surgery technologies. Susan spoke on her philosophy of 20-something’s having cosmetic surgery done, “It’s addictive, Especially for the insecure ones who define themselves by followers and likes”. This couldn’t be more true! Surgery is addictive and should be done with caution.
Lastly, she spoke on how Americans are FINALLY catching up to the beauty trends of the world. Skin care is the #1 makeup market in many countries, just look at Asian countries. We dream of having their skin, and we are just beginning to use products like rose water, rice masks, hydration serums as consumers for the first time. We are behind in the game!! Susan also spoke briefly about what inspires her to create products that work. She battled skin cancer and won when she was younger. Her passion for awareness is what drives her to create successful products.
Gary was or hairstylist man of the hour at the event. He brought us looks straight from the runways of New York, London, And Milan and how this falls hair trends will be like nothing we’ve seen recently. One word stood out every time he talked. Texture. For fall hair looks are texturized to give a voluminous bounce and that sexy tousled look to it! His recommendations were product based and what he does to achieve these looks. He also spoke on the market and who mainly makes up the market. You’ll never guess, but over 50% of the market is women over 50!! This is because they have the funds to “play” so to speak, with products and they can afford the high wnd products that essentially work better than the cheaper products! The more you know!!
